Crypto Intro – How to Pay

Install MetaMask (Browser Wallet)

To connect to Robin’s site, you must install a wallet browser extension. Some browsers, like Brave, have a built-in crypto wallet function. If your browser does not, you can easily download the MetaMask browser extension.

You’ll use MetaMask to connect your wallet and approve transactions on the Polygon network.

Optional: Use Base Wallet for Mobile

MetaMask does have a mobile phone app if you want to manage your wallet there too, you can. However, if you prefer more diversity in managing your funds on mobile, you can still use Base Wallet (formerly Coinbase Wallet):

You’ll still need MetaMask or some sort of Web3 wallet system on your browser to connect to Robin’s site.
Use your mobile wallet only to send funds or manage assets.

Important Note

There is always the option to link your mobile wallet and your browser wallet using your secret recovery phrase. Be extremely careful where you enter that recovery phrase and ensure it is the correct prompt to import your wallet within the MetaMask browser extension.

Buy USDC and POL (On Polygon)

Depending on which is wallet selected, the instructions will vary slightly. Below is a set of generic instructions for adding crypto to your wallet. It is extremely important to read the deposit rules on each exchange where you purchase your crypto. Usually, on-ramps provided in phone apps have much larger minimums than are required (such as a 20 USD minimum purchase of POL or USDC in MetaMask when maybe 5 USDC and less than 1 cent in POL for fees is needed to pay for your report). Robin can help with the network fees. See below.

To pay for a subscription or a report, you need:

  1. USDC – stablecoin used for payments on the Polygon Network
  2. POL – used to cover Polygon network fees
Robin’s subscriptions run on the Polygon network. You must switch networks before buying.
Buying crypto on Ethereum or Base will result in errors when attempting to pay—and moving your coins to the correct network will cost gas fees.

How to Buy:

  1. In MetaMask or Base Wallet, tap Buy or Trade.
  2. Change the network to Polygon.
  3. Buy USDC (on Polygon) in the amount you need.
  4. Then buy a small amount of POL (on Polygon)—usually less than $0.25 (not available at such small quantities at all exchanges).

If the token doesn’t exactly say USDC or POL, don’t buy it. Check both network and token name carefully. Crypto transactions do not go backwards.

You will need a small amount of POL in your wallet to process future renewals too!

Tip: If you already use Coinbase.com, you can send crypto from there to your wallet address.

Connect Your Wallet

  1. Make sure the MetaMask browser extension (if using MetaMask) or Web3 wallet of choice is installed and configured.
  2. Connect your wallet by pressing the "Connect Wallet" button and follow your browsers instructions for accessing your wallet.

Unlock Content & Pay

Once your wallet is connected:

  1. Any sections you may be missing out on will be hidden with a prompt. To open the hidden content, click “Click here to unlock!”.
  2. Choose your tier (report or subscription) and click Next.
  3. Unlock Protocol will prompt you to connect your wallet to pay for your subscription. This will be the wallet to receive the report key. You must sign-in with this specific wallet going forward.
  4. Approve the connection in your wallet for payment.
  5. Make sure your wallet is still on the Polygon network, with USDC and POL both available. You may need to purchase or transfer some POL or USDC from an exchange, on-ramp, or another wallet. If you need POL and cannot acquire any, please follow the form below to request gas money.
  6. Your wallet will prompt for a confirmation, approve the payment.
  7. Access is granted automatically when the transaction is complete.
Special Notes: Only use the Polygon Network for crypto transfers. If the network is busy, access may take a few minutes to appear.

What Happens Next?

  • Once paid, your wallet will hold a special “membership token” (an NFT) that gives you access to Robin’s Insights.
  • You can transfer your recurring membership to other wallets for very little POL (less than 1 cent usually), but per report purchases are wallet-locked.
  • When you return to the site and connect your wallet, access is automatic—as long as your wallet holds the membership token.
